Gojo Vs. Sukuna: Who Would Win and Why?

Jujutsu Kaisen has introduced us to some very powerful characters. Two of the most powerful characters from the series are Satoru Gojo, while the other is the demon Sukuna, who lives inside Itadori’s body. Who would win?

It is not know officially yet, but it is assumed that Satoru Gojo is the only character who could beat Sukuna. Sukuna is by far the most powerful demon and he is an actual threat but knowing how powerful Satoru Gojo is and how every other demon was child’s play for him, he could very well be the only one capable of defeating Sukuna.

The rest of this article will further elaborate on the above-given answer, as we are going to compare Satoru Gojo and Ryomen Sukuna in more detail. Through several categories, you are going to see who the stronger of the two is and why our answer is like it is.

Overall Skills

Satoru is said to be one of, if not the most powerful sorceres in the series, wielding both immense amounts of cursed energy and a dangerously powerful technique. As a student, both Satoru and Suguru were considered “the strongest”, capable of overpowering experienced and older blightbenders.

After realizing the true power of his powers and honing them, Satoru’s power greatly increased to the point where he was able to beat Toji Fushiguro who previously could easily overpower Satoru and Suguru. Growing up, he eclipsed Suguru’s power, with the latter admitting that Satoru had truly become the “only strongest”. Suguru also stated that Satoru had the ability to kill all of humanity single-handedly, where he couldn’t.

Sukuna is an S-class cursed spirit. Considered the undisputed king of cursed spirits, Sukuna possesses incredible strength and presence, a presence that nearly froze his opponents when he awoke in Shibuya. He quickly overpowered and defeated Jogo, the strongest scourge of Mahito’s faction. Even Satoru acknowledged Sukuna’s strength, stating that fighting him would be difficult.

With each appearance, Sukuna has proven himself to be by far the strongest scourge of all time. He badly injured Mahito when he was angry, defeated Jogo without much difficulty, and even defeated Makora, the Ten Shadow Technique’s strongest familiar. His strength is so great that Mahito and Jogo were convinced that Sukuna’s full resurrection could secure the domination of the cursed spirits.

Sukuna’s strength is only rivaled by a small number of people, even among the S classes, Satoru being one of the only people who can claim to defeat him (as far as we know).

Overall, Satoru Gojo seems to be the bigger badass of the two. This remains to be proven but from what we know about the two from the manga and anime, their influence, and their overall reputation, Satoru Gojo deserves this point a bit more than Sukuna does at this point.

Jujutsu

Satoru is known within exorcist society as the most powerful exorcist. He got this alias due to the immense amounts of dark energy and powerful techniques he possesses. Satoru’s dark energy is vast enough to use a Domain Expansion multiple times a day unlike other exorcists.

He has excellent control over his black energy, being able to activate his Domain Expansion in a split second, use the Reverse Cursed Technique, and even combine positive and negative cursed energy.

Sukuna possesses immense levels of cursed energy as the strongest cursed spirit. He was able to use his techniques continuously throughout his fights without exhausting himself in the least. He has skillful control over his occult energy, being able to use the Domain Expansion and Reverse Cursed Techniques. The only other person who uses both techniques is Satoru.

This is the most important category and from what we could gather – Gojo is theoretically able to overpower Sukuna’s jutsu. This is nothing official, but from what we know – Gojo deserves this point.

Fighting Skills

Satoru Gojo, in addition to his overwhelming level of cursed energy, is also an incredibly formidable martial arts master, with extraordinary physical prowess to back up his skills. He was able to completely overpower Jogo in melee, delivering several pinpoint attacks to the flail’s killspots.

He was even able to fight and largely overpowered Jogo and Hanami in close combat, easily countering their attacks and delivering powerful blows that quickly forced them into submission.

Sukuna is an extremely skilled and powerful hand-to-hand combatant. He is shown overwhelming Megumi with simple powerful physical blows. Sukuna can combine his spell with his melee prowess, making him an extremely difficult opponent to defeat in combat.

Both of them are undoubtedly skilled, but we honestly think that Gojo has shown more over the course of the anime and the manga. Sukuna might have something up his sleeve, but until we actually see that – Gojo takes this point.

Speed and Reflexes

Gojo has great speed, managing to follow the movements of an S-class flail effortlessly, and throwing almost imperceptible punches and kicks. He has been shown to be able to move faster than the eye can perceive, and in his greatest feat of speed, covered a great distance from a fight and returned to the battlefield before until his opponent realizes he was even gone in the first place.

Sukuna has shown that he moves at an incredible speed which is such that it is already too late for his opponent to notice that he has not moved. He can also easily counter any opponent and has shown that coupled with his speed, he can lacerate his opponent before the latter can realize it.

This is a category in which Sukuna could very well be more powerful than Gojo, although that hasn’t been definitively proven in the manga and the anime. Still, we’d like to be bold here and award this point to Sukuna.

Intelligence

Satoru proved quite tactical and showed he was able to figure out what his opponent was planning with just enough information. He’s also shown to be extremely adaptable to virtually every enemy he’s faced so far, knowing exactly what to do to counter their techniques and defeat them.

Sukuna is an incredibly intelligent cursed spirit. He fully understood the nature of spells and black energy as a whole. With this, he is able to quickly deduce the inner workings of spells after only seeing them once or twice as well as creating parries suited to these techniques. The most notorious example is his fight against Makora, during which he was able to defeat the familiar after understanding his technique.

We couldn’t really pick a clear winner here. Both Gojo and Sukuna are exceptional tacticians and would find their way around a fight, but we couldn’t really pick the better one yet, which is why we decided to split the points in this last category.

Satoru Gojo Vs. Ryomen Sukuna: Who Wins?

In all honesty, this comparison was a pretty complicated one. Why? Well, for one, it is exceptionally important as it resolves the issue that exists since Gojo and Sukuna have been introduced as the two most powerful characters in the franchise. The story itself is quite intriguing, but we’re all just waiting to see how the duel between Gojo and Sukuna will end.

Secondly, we don’t know a lot of information about the two from a comparative standpoint. Sure, we know a lot about them individually, but we don’t really know how they would fight against each other, since neither of them have had to use their full powers so far. All the enemies that they have fought so far were below them in terms of powers and abilities, which is why this one was so difficult to work out.

Ultimately, we had to make a choice and, as the numbers have shown, we went with Gojo. We don’t know if Gojo will actually be the one to defeat Sukuna in the end, but from what we could gather – he would be able to do it. They’re both very close, but Gojo seems to have the edge in some crucial categories – as we have shown above – and we thought that was enough for us to award this win to Gojo.

We cannot be completely certain about this and the manga might prove us wrong in the end, but this is our opinion based on the facts we have. If anyone can defeat Sukuna, it’s Gojo.
