Bleach: How & Why Did Mayuri Revive the Dead Arrancar?

Bleach: How & Why DId Mayuri Revive the Dead Arrancar?

Mayuri Kurotsuchi is known as the resident genius of Soul Society in Bleach, although his intelligence is supposedly inferior to both Urahara’s and Aizen’s (Maruyi definitely wouldn’t agree with this). And while even he was caught off guard once or twice, he was usually prepared for everything and anything, and his fight against Giselle Gewelle and her zombies was an important piece of evidence in that aspect. Namely, during the fight, Mayuri Kurotsuchi revealed that he managed to resurrect four former Arrancar, including two Privaron Espada and a former Espada, and use them to fight the enemy. In this article, we are going to explain how and why he did it.

The exact process by which Mayuri resurrected the four Arrancar is unknown, but knowing his expertise, he probably came up with a Reiatsu-based device or medicine that allowed him to revive the three corpses he found in Szayelaporro’s laboratory, as well as Charlotte’s corpse which was left in Fake Karakura. He did it so he could have more soldiers to help the Gotei 13 fight the Sternritter, and he was surprisingly attentive to them, not wanting to simply waste them. Although they were “corpses,” they were technically alive and fully sentient in that aspect.

The rest of this article will talk about Mayuri Kurotsuchi and his resurrection of the four Arrancar, which happened during the second invasion of the Seireitei. This was an important moment in the fight against the Sternritter, and it showed just how well-prepared Mayuri Kurotsuchi really was, i.e., how superior of a fighter he was. We will tell you all the relevant facts about his important moment that will come up in the anime very soon. This also means that there will be numerous spoilers, so be careful how you approach our text.

Mayuri revived a total of four Arrancar and used them as allies against the Sternritter

There was a pivotal moment after Bambietta’s defeat to Komamura when Giselle Gewelle stepped onto the battlefield and showed us just how interesting and creepy her ability was. Giselle Gewelle is known as the Sternritter “Z” – “The Zombie,” and her ability of the same name allowed her to control or resurrect anyone who comes into contact with her blood.

These “minions” would be like zombies, hence the name of her ability. She used her blood on numerous weaker Shinigami after they had been defeated, but also on Captains Kensei Muguruma, Rojuro Otoribashi, and Rangiku Matsumoto.

When her ability came to the forefront, she was met by none other than Mayuri Kurotsuchi, the Captain of the 12th Division, who managed to counter her zombies with a similar group of his own. Namely, not long after her appearance, Mayuri Kutorsuchi presented four well-known characters to us – Luppi Antenor, the former Sexta Espada, Dordoni Alessandro Del Socaccio and Cirucci Sanderwicci, two Privaron Espada, and Charlotte Chuhlhourne, a powerful Fraccion of Baraggan Louisenbairn, the former Segunda Espada. And while this wouldn’t be an issue, the problem was that all four of them were – dead.

Rudbornn Chelute and his Exequias killed off Dordoni and Cirucci after being defeated by Ichigo Kurosaki and Ishida, respectively; Grimmjow killed Luppi Antenor after Orihime had healed his wounds. The three of them ended up in Szayelaporro’s laboratory, which is where Mayuri found their corpses. Yumichika defeated Charlotte in Fake Karakura, and his corpse was probably taken by Mayuri personally. And while it was never explained how he did it, Mayuri found a way to resurrect them and use them as allies in the battle against the Sternritter.

Of course, he modified their bodies a little and installed special devices in them that would allow him to electrocute them whenever he wanted, but despite that, he seemed to worry about them, and while he did punish them for disobedience, he also saved them from dying again. Why? It is unknown, but knowing Mayuri, there could be various reasons for that, as he is quite quirky and unpredictable.

So, what happened then? Well, the Arrancar actually proved to be quite useful. They easily beat up Giselle’s zombie army, and Charlotte even defeated Bambietta with ease; they, of course, fell to the three Captains, but Mayuri saved them and, based on what he said to Charlotte, that he would punish him by leaving him in a near-death state for a while, it is implied that Mayuri actually let them live later on.

A big question is why Mayuri revived only four of them, but there is a logical answer to this, really: Baraggan and Ulquiorra were disintegrated, while Harribel survived, as did Grimmjow; Zaraki killed Nnoitora and most probably disappeared, just like Aaroniero, who was killed by Rukia, and Zommari, who Byakuya killed; a lot of the Fracciones were either mutilated or completely destroyed; what happened to Yammy after his defeat is unknown, which leaves only Starrk’s fate up in the air, but it could very well be that Starrk was simply too powerful to control in such a way. Of course, there is no way that he would resurrect Szayelaporro, but that is a topic we’ve talked about in a different article.

It could also be that the lack of information on the resurrected Arrancar is due to the manga being rushed, which means that we might get a proper explanation in the anime or see even more of them at some point, but this is pure conjecture on our part, as we don’t really know anything at this point.

Mayuri revived four powerful Arrancar

Before we end our article, we’ll just quickly tell you about the four revived Arrancar, although in short:

  • Cirucci Sanderwicci was Arrancar number 105 in Sōsuke Aizen’s army and was a former Espada before being demoted to a Privaron Espada. Her Ressurection was called Golondrina. She inhabited a special room in Las Noches, where she faced off against Uryu Ishida and Pesche, eventually losing to them after Ishida used some of his special skills. She was finished off by Rudbornn Chelute and his Exequias, and her corpse was taken to Szayelaporro’s laboratory.
  • Dordoni Alessandro Del Socaccio, or simply Dordoni, was the 103rd Arrancar of Sōsuke Aizen’s army and, thus, one of the Privaron Espada. His Resurrection was called Giralda. He was a powerful fighter who faced Ichigo and Nel, ultimately losing to them, albeit with a smile on his face, as he respected Ichigo as a fighter. He, too, was killed off by Rudbornn Chelute and his Exequias, and his corpse was taken to Szayelaporro’s laboratory.

  • Charlotte Cuuhlhourne was one of Baraggan Luisenbairn’s diverse Fracciónes. Although he has a female name, he is nevertheless male. Sent to destroy one of the four pillars holding the real Karakura in Soul Society, Charlotte faced Yumichika Ayasegawa in battle and lost after Yumichika activated his true Shikai. His Resurrection was called Reina De Rosas. It is not known how Mayuri got to him, but he probably found his corpse in Fake Karakura and took it with him, as he wasn’t in Szayelaporro’s laboratory.
  • Luppi Antenor was an Arrancar and was, for a short time, the Sexta Espada of Sōsuke Aizen’s army as a temporary replacement for Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez, who was expelled from the Espada due to a missing arm. However, after Orihime Inoue’s abilities healed Grimmjow’s arm, Luppi was killed by Grimmjow. Luppi’s remains later came into the possession of the Octava Espada Szayelaporro Granz, after whose defeat Luppi’s body came into the possession of the commander of the 12th Company of the Gotei 13, Mayuri Kurotsuchi, who reassembled Luppi’s remains and revived him. His Resurrection is called Trepadora.
